10 Years of GeoCashing! Smithville, Tx

Here is some info on GeoCashing that I found. It will be a fun event May 1st, here in Smithville, Tx.  Our BandB is already booked for that weekend, but Smithville is a fun place to visit. (Secret- there is a Cashe right near our B&B)
Here is the information:
Believe it or not, Smithville, Texas is on the map. Unbeknownst (sp) to us, in planning this event, we discovered this is the 10th anniversary of Geo Caching, so we are honored to put on this event and will be honored to have as many geocachers as possible attend. As this will be our first effort in putting on an event, we intend to do a good job. Based upon early returns, there is interest from old time cachers as well newer cachers. Should be pHun!

The gathering will take place at the La Cabana Restaurant located on Highway 71 East Bound just a mile or so west of the Smithville exit at 1:30pm. The actual address of the La Cabana is 719 Hwy 71 West, Smithville, TX and of course, the coordinates listed should put you on the doorstep. We are going to try and incorporate lunch and program all together. There will be some door prizes. Looks we are going to have some neat stuff to give away, including two unregistered geocoins. Other prizes include so far: 3 Sure Fire Flashlights; 12 Spec-OPS Nylon Pouches; Gen-Tech Lanyards. The Smithville Chamber of Commerce plans on contributing some prizes. At this point, we will have a presentation by a representative of Buescher State Park which is located nearby. Of course, we know that the Texas State Parks in this area are friends and participants of geocaching. There maybe a few geocaching war stories by geocachers with many experiences and maybe even a few by new cachers. We plan on a question and answer time, so opportunity will be there to ask any that participate in the program the question not answered during their presentation.

For additional information of what is available in Smithville, see: www.smithvilletx.org Also, if you plan on an extended stay, feel free to email me (pHantompHrog) for additional information.

We plan on this being a friendly event for all families and individuals who attend.

Geocachers, Take note- Katy House and Smithville

Geocachers, Take Notice of Smithville!

For about two years now, the Katy House Bed and Breakfast has been one site of the many geocaches that can be found in or near Smithville, Texas. Whether you’re an old-timer at geocaching or a brand-new fan, you should come look in Smithville. There are now 40 geocaches hidden within 4 miles of the Smithville Post Office, making this area an absolute gold mine of geocaches!  If you want to see what we’re talking about, go to http://www.geocaching.com/  and put in Zip Code 78957 to search for geocaches in this area.
Since being placed, the Katy House has had about 70 visitors coming to find the geocache.  Further, some friends once hid a Travel Bug in the geocache called “A Ticket to Ride” (not far from the Katy House), and it has now traveled to Japan, Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany! They just wished they could’ve gone with the Travel Bug.
So – do you want to know where the geocache is hidden at the Katy House?  We’re sworn to secrecy, but we will tell you the coordinates are: N 30° 00.500 W 097° 09.663.  You can find our geocache listed as “Katy Bar the Door” on the geocaching web site listed above.
